Shavuot
The feast of Shavuot comes in Early Summer, one of the 3 main feasts. The name Shavuot comes from a week of weeks or 49 days (or in Greek Pentecost for 50 days) from the time of the 1st barley harvest. The original purpose of the feast was the 1st fruits thanksgiving celebration for the 2nd (wheat) harvest. This feast as prescribed in Leviticus 23, is God given and God has chosen to do wonderful things on it.
We celebrate Shavuot or Pentecost gladly today because of:
1. Covenant Timing
Shavuot's timing in the 3rd month of Nisan is the same time as the Israelites camped at Mt. Sinai and God made Covenant with them and gave His Torah Exodus 19:1. In the New Testament God chose the day of Shavuot to start His New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31.
2. Time of Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit was poured out in abundance on this very day and the power of God was seen. Isaiah 59:20 "As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord, my Spirit, who is on you and my words that I put in your mouths..."
Come and celebrate Shavuot with us!
